2010 HINDI MOVIE (bollywood)
TEEN PATTI
Set in India and England, starring two acting legends of our times – czar of the Indian film industry, Amitabh Bachchan and Academy Award Winner Sir Ben Kingsley – Teen Patti is an emotionally riveting and razor sharp thriller about greed, deception and giant feats of imagination.
Sir Ben Kingsley, essays Perci Trachtenberg, regarded as the world’s greatest living mathematician. Perci meets Venkat, played by Amitabh Bachchan, a reclusive math genius from India, at a casino in London. Venkat tells Perci about an equation that could not only change the dialogue on mathematics forever but one that has imprinted guilt – for many painful reasons – on Venkat's life. As it turns out, the reclusive genius Venkat has cracked a theory that could redefine the principles of probability and randomness.
One of Venkat’s fellow professors, Shantanu - essayed by South Indian super star R Madhavan – encourages him to test the theory out in the real world. Madhavan believes Venkat’s equation could crack the card game, Teen Patti, which could rake in all the moolah. Along with a few students, each with a complex fate, they explore the addas (underground gambling dens) of Bombay. A series of edge-of-your-seat escapades keep the film moving faster than a bullet.
But what starts out as an experiment between a charismatic young professor and an eccentric older one quickly descends into a game neither can control. As their lives sink into maddening chaos, the greed and desperation that fuelled them can no longer save them. Perci understands that Venkat's theory in essence questions the idea of what is random - and of what is fated.
A deeply moving redemption, initiated by Perci, closes this stupendously modern film that is as much about the private equations of honor and chance, and about knowledge that can change the world. But what if the price of this knowledge is life itself?

CLICK
If you are an avid fan of horror movies than it is better that you rent a horror movie DVD rather than wasting your money on Click. From the very first promo of the movie people knew that Click is nothing, but just a remake of 2004 Thai hit Shutter which was than adapted by Hollywood in 2008 under the same title, and you won't believe this but same plot is used in a Tamil movie name Sivi which was released in 2007. The only changes director Sangeeth Sivan has made here is that he has modified the plot as per the Indian audience to ensure that people come up and watch this scary movie which is far away from horror.
The plot revolves around a young photographer Avi (Shreyas Talpade) and his girlfriend Sonia (Sada). Avi loves to click beautiful pictures and has a past before Sonia enters his life. However, one night while they are returning from a party they accidentally hit and run a young girl. Though, Sonia wants to help the girl, Avi fears involvement of police and therefore they decide to flee rather than helping the girl. After a couple of days, all pictures clicked by Avi has some strange white markings and Sonia begins to experience something beyond natural. Avi develops a shoulder pain and though he is fit and healthy his weight shows up as 120 kgs. Soon all best friends of Avi begin to die for some strange reasons and Sonia begins to feel that something is haunting them. The later part of the story is all about Sonia's quest to find out the shocking reality behind all the happenings.
If we look at the plot of the movie there is nothing much to speak about. Those who have already watched the Hollywood version of this movie will be utterly disappointed, because they know where the story is heading and therefore they will be aware of all the thrills about to come on the screen. However, the movie does have some scary moments, but I guess that is not enough to capture audience attention. Director Sangeeth Sivan might be a master at making comedies like Kya Kool Hain Hum and Apna Sapna Money Money, but failed to click as a master of horror.
Apart from the story, performance by Shreyas Talpade is good but his acting alone cannot help Click to register its mark at the box office. Sada is good in her role but there was no need to go for revealing clothes. Another negative point that the movie has is the music by Samir Tandon. I guess there was no need for songs. Often it has been noticed that horror movies punctuated with crappy songs spoils the entire flow of the movie. Cinematography by T.Ramji is presentable but special effects ruins up that department as well. I guess its time that our film makers should realize that there is a very thin line between getting inspired and copy pasting the script.
RIGHT YAA WRONG
Ajay Shridhar (Sunny Deol) is a brave and an intelligent cop. Some incident happens and he wants to die and he wants his wife (Eesha Koppikhar) to kill him. Will a wife agree to kill her own husband? Why Ajay wants to kill himself? An intriguing tale of two powerful cops and best friends, Ajay Sridhar (Sunny Deol) and Vinay Patnaik (Irrfan Khan), where an intense rivalry leads them on a battle for supremacy. An interesting hide and seek game between them leads to a dramatic confrontation where Vidya (Konkona Sen), ironically Vinay’s sister, chooses to support Ajay in this chase of mind games, and Vinay has to fight it out.
The most chilling racy thriller which shakes you up and keeps you on the edge of your seat till you know...
What is Right? and What is Wrong?...

My Name is Khan makes two strong statements...
• The first: B.C. and A.D. are designations used to label years in the Julian and Gregorian calendars. There's a third designation now - 9/11. Post September 11, the world stands divided. Terrorist outfits continue to strike in the name of religion and the common man, not even remotely associated with these groups, is bearing the brunt. The world is not a safe place anymore.
• The second statement: There're two sets of people in this world - the good and the bad. No matter how strong the evil forces are, good always triumphs. My Name is Khan mirrors the era we live in. Not a day goes by when you haven't heard/read/watched news of terror attacks and innocents being killed. We live in turbulent times. Also, the movie states - and states very strongly, without mincing words - Not all Muslims are terrorists.Karan Johar's cinema got more real from Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna onwards. In My Name is Khan, the storyteller attempts to make a social statement and succeeds completely. At the same time, it takes no sides. If the protagonist says 'My name is Khan and I am not a terrorist', it also exposes those who misadvise the youth with inflammatory and rabble-rousing speeches.Karan's take on the issue deserves the highest praise, since a subject like this is difficult to attempt. Final word? My Name is Khan is Karan, SRK and Kajol's best outing to date. Do I need to add anything more?Rizvan Khan [Shah Rukh Khan moves to San Francisco and lives with his brother [Jimmy Shergill] and sister-in-law [Sonya Jehan]. Rizvan, who has Asperger's syndrome, falls in love with Mandira [Kajol]. Despite protests from his brother, they get married and start a small business together. They are happy until September 11, when attitudes towards Muslims undergo a sea-change.When tragedy strikes, Mandira is devastated and they split. Rizvan is confused and upset that the love of his life has left him. To win her back, he embarks on a touching and inspiring journey across America.Let me alert you. The story unfolds feverishly from the very start itself. So if you miss a scene or two, chances are you would've missed some vital links in the story. The fact is, there's too much happening in the first half. Although the narrative tends to get leisurely-paced at times, the wheels continue to move from one episode to another.A number of sequences are endearing. For instance, the romance between SRK and Kajol is subtle, yet charming. But it's SRK's relationship with Kajol and their kid that's one of the best parts of the movie. Your heart bleeds when an accident occurs and their lives are torn apart. Kajol's outburst - first, when her son meets with a catastrophe and second, when she confronts SRK - are truly shattering. My Name is Khan's strength lies in the fact that you root for Khan all through. At the same time, you are weighed down when he's in a vulnerable situation, especially when he's labelled a terrorist and thrown behind bars. You don't realize it, but the fact is that you, as a spectator, have already got entwined in Rizvan and Mandira's lives. There's a slight hitch in the second hour, when SRK returns to Georgia to save a hurricane-ravaged hamlet. Also, the media exercise tends to add to the length of the film. Nonetheless, it's a minor hiccup that doesn't rob the film of its punch. There's just one word to illustrate Karan's direction - exemplary. One of the finest storytellers of our generation, he deserves brownie points for deviating from 'Karan Johar brand of cinema' and attempting a film that knocks on your heart and stimulates your mind. With My Name is Khan, Karan takes rapid strides as a storyteller.Shibani Bathija's screenplay is truly arresting. Shibani and Niranjan Iyengar's dialogues are noteworthy and many a times, applaud-worthy. Ravi K. Chandran's cinematography is awe-inspiring. Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy's music gels well with the nature of the film. When a film stars two of the finest talents of the country, you expect nothing but the best. SRK, well, how does one describe his performance? To state that this is his best work so far would be cutting short the praise he truly deserves. In fact, no amount of praise can do sufficient justice to his portrayal of Rizvan Khan, who has Asperger's syndrome. His latest work is several notches above anything he has done before. The only compliment that I can think of is, SRK has a new screen-name now. Raj is passe, Rizvan it is.Kajol is pure dynamite and casting her for this character was the most appropriate decision. No other actress could've matched SRK in histrionics the way Kajol has. In fact, SRK and Kajol compliment each other wonderfully well and this film only proves it yet again. It's a powerhouse performance from this supremely talented actress. The film boasts of a number of capable actors, but the ones who leave a rock-solid impact are - in this order - Zarina Wahab, Sonya Jehan, Jimmy Shergill, Arjun Mathur, Parvin Dabas and Arif Zakaria. Sugandha Garg is confident. Navneet Nishan supports well. Vinay Pathak leaves a mark in a brief role. Tanay Chheda [young SRK] and Yuvaan Makaar [SRK and Kajol's son Sameer] are excellent. The American actors, especially the kid who plays Sameer's friend, deserves mention. On the whole, My Name is Khan is a fascinating love story, has an angle of religion and a world-shaking incident as a backdrop. It not only entertains, but also mesmerises, enthrals and captivates the viewer in those 2.40 hours. At the same time, a film like My Name is Khan is sure to have a far-reaching influence due to its noble theme. I strongly advocate, don't miss this one!

R. Siddharth: Surya
Born in a poor family, Surya grows up with few luxuries. The fact that he is a weak child and is frequently unwell keeps him away from school often. While at home he is first introduced to carrom by his elder brother, Chandrakant.Winning the Junior National Carrom Championship at 12 is not enough to keep the fire for the sport burning through adolescence. Getting a job in Dubai and moving there replaces the passion for the game as Surya grows in to a young man.Forged by a bogus overseas employment agency, Surya loses all his hard earned money he had saved for going aboard. Reintroduced to the game by his street smart friend Zaid (this time to the hustling scene). Surya starts playing again to not let his circumstances get the better of him, but the other way around.
Aditya Pancholi: Jaleel
The most dreaded gangster in Malwani, Jaleel is the quintessential anti-hero. Feeding on the bedlam and weaknesses of people, Jaleel has his hands in every law-breaking business conceivable. The lack of patriarchal influences in his life makes him vulnerable and gullible to evil influences around him.The desire for quick money and a knack for being street smart; Zaid is fuelled by desire to fulfill his dreams with Surya of changing their circumstances in the near future. He gets involved with Jaleel's gang, thinking it will be as easy to get out, as it was to get in. He is unsure of mind, but is always clear about his loyalties, which are always with his friend. In his attempt to find solutions to problems, he generally worsens the state of affairs. He is the trigger in creating confrontational situations in Surya's life. His tendency of making light of most scenarios wreaks havoc for both friends.
Anupam Kher: Inspector Farooque
Inspector Farooque is unlike any other cop in the city. He is honest, tough and smart. Posted in Malwani to curb the ever-increasing crime rate, criminals in the area begin fearing him very quickly. His goal is very clear - get rid of anti-social elements in the area one at a time. He is not afraid to try radical means to maintain peace in Malwani, even if it means compromising with the very criminals he wants to put down. He is well aware of the shortcomings of being in a society that is corrupt and insincere. But instead of allowing circumstances to frustrate or change him, he rises above and manipulates the same circumstances to do what is best for the people.Farooque is one of the positive influences in Surya's life. It is because of people like him that Malwani does not explode in the cortex of communal and criminal violence through the many chaotic times seen by the city.

Her sudden departure coupled with another mishap in his life leave him scathed for a long time to come.
Padmapriya: Madhu

She handles her drunken customers with a cool and no-nonsense attitude.Although Surya frequents her bar often, it is not until much later that he notices her. She treats Surya like any other customer at first. Their interaction begins at a time when he is defeated, broken and at a rage with the world. She sees him at his lowest, and what follows is a relationship that is honest and mature.
Synopsis
Set in a Mumbai ghetto in the mid '80's and based on true life accounts, Striker is a story of triumph of human spirit over indomitable odds.Born into a poor family, Surya grows up with few luxuries. Poor health keeps him away from school often and that is when his elder brother, Chandrakant, introduces him to carrom.Quite similar to pool in its concept, carrom is common among people from middle and lower income groups all over India. Precision and skill are vital to playing the game well; attitude and confidence are crucial to win. The underground carrom scene has been breeding hustlers and gamblers for many years.Winning the Junior Carrom Championship at 12 is not enough to keep Surya's fire for the sport burning through adolescence. Hopes for a job in Dubai, replaces the passion for carrom as Surya grows into a young man.Duped by a bogus overseas employment agency, Surya loses all his hard earned money he had saved for going to Dubai. Surya is forced to cross paths with Jaleel.Since the 70's when the settlements in the ghetto began, Jaleel had acquired a strong hold in the area. He had his hands in every illicit activity since then. Feeding on the weaknesses of people, Jaleel was the self-proclaimed king of Malwani.Reintroduced to Carrom by his childhood friend Zaid, this time to the hustling scene, Surya starts playing again. Being gypped of his hand earned money by the same man who had caused misery for many families; Surya decides to take on Jaleel on his turf. His patience and cool attitude are Surya's biggest strengths. But life has ways of testing even the strong.Striker is not a film about good versus evil. It is the story of a friendship, life in the city of dreams in the 80's, a story of a game that is most common but non-existent. A story of a Carrom player who grows up on the fringes of a criminal existence but does not succumb to it.

Naseeruddin Shah: Khalujan
Khalujan is a pure romantic at heart. He is a bit of an odd cookie in the world of crime. Sure, he has a sharp mind and body and has been toughened up over the years living in the world of guns and gangsters; yet, he is very emotional and tender at the core. He wants to go back to his village and wants to settle down in a quiet, peaceful country life existence. Only, life had other plans for him. Love happens to him. Krishna happens to him.
Arshad Warsi: Babban
Babban is, in more ways than one, the antithesis of the kind of man his uncle is. If Khalujan is all heart and soul, Babban is all flesh and blood. He is hot-blooded, lustful and scoffs at the idea of true romantic love. Babban is cynical, indifferent to finer things in life and tough as nails. Through the course of the film, Babban discovers what it is to love and to be betrayed. It makes the dormant softer side of him come alive. Perhaps for the first time in his life, Babban cares...for Krishna.
Vidya Balan: Krishna Verma
The femme fatale. The small town girl. The mysterious woman. The forgotten widow. Krishna is a bundle of contradictions. We see her as a woman madly in love. We see her as an object of desire. We see her as a vision of purity. We see her engaging herself in a lustful bout with another man. What is so attractive about her is that although we connect with her at many levels, a complete understanding of her eludes us. What does she want? Why is she the way she is? The answer lies at the core of the story that is Ishqiya.
Synopsis
Ishqiya is a story of romance between individuals caught in a web of crime, suspense, passion, and deceit. Two thieves, Khalujan and Babban, are on the run from their boss, Mushtaq. They seek refuge with an old friend, and instead meet his widow, Krishna. As they plan their escape, their time spent together draws the duo to her, Khalu with his tinted vision of old-fashioned love, and Babban with his lustful eye. The threat of imminent death forces them on a path of violence and betrayal. Set in a rural landscape, Ishqiya explores basic human emotions as influenced by desire, greed and revenge

Amitabh Bachchan as Vijay Harshvardhan Malik
The founder of the first ever private news channel in the country INDIA 24/7, the Harvard-educated Harshvardhan Malik is India's most respected media personality. He is a hardcore upholder of journalistic ethics. No wonder his Channel is battling for survival!
Sudeep as Jay Malik
A go-getter and highly aggressive and ambitious son of Harshvardhan Malik, Jay looks at his feather's news channel purely as a business enterprise that must make profits to justify its existence. He hates that his competition is doing better than him.
Riteish Deshmukh as Purab Shastri
Armed with a degree in journalism, Purab Shastri truly believes that the media should be the check point for the people of a country, and therefore, it should report news, instead of manufacturing news. Purab's thinking sets him apart from most youngsters of this country. While everyone is chasing their individual dreams, Purab aggressively wants to work towards a better India. Needless to say, a clash between Purab and the powers-that-be looks inevitable. It is dangerous to be right when the government is wrong!
Paresh Rawal as Mohan Pandey
It is every politician's dream to become the Prime Minister of his country. To that extent, the leader of the opposition Mohan Pandey is no different from his contemporaries. The only difference being - if the need arises, Pandey can and will kill to get the coveted chair.
Mohnish Behl as Amrish Kakkar
Amrish Kakkar was the first to have the vision and the foresight to realize that even the business of delivering news can be made entertaining. Amrish therefore can be safely held singularly responsible for taking the television news industry to the dogs, or to the heights, depending on how you see it. His channel is no less than a shady brothel, the content that is news is no less than a cheap hooker, and Amrish Kakkar - the most powerful pimp around.
Suchitra Krishnamurthy as Nalini Kashyap
Nalini Kashyap is the programming head of Harshvardhan Malik's news channel, India 24/7. Having been in the industry for long enough, she has developed a practical view of how things operate here. And this comes in direct conflict with what her boss, Harshvardhan Malik, thinks. Juggling the cut-throat world outside with the idealistic universe of her boss, Nalini Kashyap has her job cut out.
Rajat Kapoor as Naveen Shankalya
Naveen Shankalya, apart from being the son-in-law of Harshvardhan Malik, is also one of the topmost industrialists of the country. Despite this, he is the most insecure man on earth, and won't rest till he becomes the number one industrialist in the country. His best buddy Mohan Pandey becoming the Prime Minister of India will surely help his cause.
Gul Panag as Nandita Sharma
The assistant of an ad filmmaker, Nandita Sharma someday hopes to bag an independent feature film. She is in a live-in relationship with her boyfriend Purab. Nandita is smart, educated, and intelligent. She is also highly indifferent to what's happening in the country, and first thinks about herself and her man, before anything or anybody else. On both counts, she represents the youth of India.
Neetu Chandra as Yasmin Hussain
An ex-model, and fiancée of Jay Malik, Yasmin watches TV, reads gossip columns, and for most part, takes everything that is dished out to her, at face value. She does not understand the intricacies of power games, and hidden motivations behind actions of people. The resources at her disposal to know what is true and what is not, are limited. She is not innocent, and she is not clever either. Yasmin therefore epitomizes the 'common man'.
Rajpal Yadav as Anand Prakash Trivedi
A creative editor, Anand Prakash Trivedi has a knack for sensationalizing even in the driest story and making it sound like the story of the decade with super catchy headlines. More than any filmmaker, he makes far better movies. Only, he calls them News.
Well, looking at the star cast of RGV's Rann, one can say that this in itself a 'breaking news'.
Synopsis:
Rann means battle. And battle is a fight between large organized forces. In the context of a civil society and its seep complexities, large organized forces (read news channels, political parties and industrial czars) are not just involved in a fight with each other, but more importantly and frighteningly. They are battling a war within themselves and this especially true of news channels.Making news is not the easiest thing in the world. So the next best thing obviously would be to make anything and everything appear to be news. The ways the news is presented today are much more entertaining than family soaps and thrillers. What's worse is that we enjoy this kind presentation so much that we have got addicted to them. There is the government - a system which runs the country, then there are wealth creators like industrialists etc and then there are politicians in the ruling party and the opposition. All the above in a democratic society are supposed to be working for the common people and the one and only means of the common people having any idea as to what those are up to is through the media. Hence the media had been invented as a truth telling machinery serving the purpose of the common people so that they know they are in good hands on in case they are told that they are not, they can hope to exercise the power of their vote to bring about a change. But in a free economy system where there is so much competition the media by default is lost in its purpose. The media is a reporting agency. It reports news. News is what is new in what you hear for the first time so to be able to be the first to tell you the various newspapers and channels have an intense competition among themselves and this they do on a need to survive, on an ego to be on the top and on a greed to get rich.To be ahead of competition means more circulation and higher TRPS which in turn generate more and more ad revenue which will translate into making more and more and more money. Also the fact that the process the people who run the media realize their power of influencing the common people inevitably makes them power hungry.Rann would exposes the behind-the-scenes truth of how a truth telling machinery by the very virtue of its positioning has no choice but to corrupt it lf it is to become a money-making and power-brokering enterprise.

In true Ajith style, no one is talking about this movie called Aasal. Just snippets of eagerly-lapped up info on how the script is an action-thriller never done before, how the locations all over the world are breathtaking, how there are two lovely leading ladies in the movie who are not mere eye-candy and how the sex-appeal of the villains – five of them at least – match any hero’s! Perhaps that’s why Thala has been chosen to fill the large superstar’s shoes...Talking to director Saran, as Aasal stands on the verge of release, one can observe the same calm he displayed just before shooting commenced. He knows what anticipation his partnership with Ajith creates, but is completely untouched by its pressure. Call it confidence or call it professionalism? “There are two important things about Aasal that we did take into consideration. What Ajith fans expect from a Ajith-Saran combo and what they expect when that combo combines with Sivaji Productions, a production house that has given the super hit Chandramukhi. We had to fulfill these expectations, but at the same time, we drew a boundary for ourselves as well. While we have taken utmost efforts to satisfy Ajith’s diehard fans, we have also made sure that the movie will suit the rest of the audience as well. While the fan is sure to feel the movie was made entirely for him, the rest of the audience will not feel left out either,” reveals the director, who has his finger on the pulse of the Ultimate Star’s loyal fans.“Ajith is undeniably a mass hero. He knows exactly what his fans would like to see on the screen. That’s why it has been a pleasure to have him contribute towards the dialogues and screenplay,” he adds. Yugi Sethu, the screenwriter, confirms the same, saying, “His part in the script and dialogues has been invaluable. Ajith is fully in sync with the cravings of his fans, while Saran is great at improvising things on the spot. The three of us worked on the script together. I believe this is the first time Ajith’s name will appear in the writers’ category, and that makes us writers all the more proud of our craft. If it were not an important facet of the movie, why would he associate himself with it?”“We have taken utmost care to give the movie a very stylish look. Billa set a standard of putting out an urban, stylish movie that also appealed to the general masses and we are not just living up to it, but we have given our best effort to better it,” asserts Saran. “Watching Aasal being made and looking at the rushes, I had a feeling of coming of age. Tamil cinema has moved on to another level . There must be no turning back. The only way is forward,” sums up Yugi. Thus muses Ajith: “There are so many stories that crop up all around a movie when the rumour mill doesn’t have any info to churn out! ‘Aasal is a remake of Payback’ Or, ‘Ajith wanted a prequel to Billa and this is what Aasal is all about’ or whatever else. Perhaps they believe it builds more anticipation. Or perhaps they just want to be the stars of their dinner-table conversations with scoop that is perhaps just a smidgen of an idea built into a tale. Never mind - they can all have their fun. I, on the other hand, still believe in keeping things mysterious and something to await eagerly in the dark. The movie experience should, after all, be fresh and a revelation!’’

Naanayam is an action-thriller-comedy about a bank robbery with all the comedy coming from Sibiraj in an almost-Sathyaraj, tongue-in-cheek, villainous style. Yes, Sibi is being introduced as the bad guy in Naanayam. This movie, a blend of old-fashioned mind games and exciting chases, promises to be an intelligent thriller. James Vasanthan scores the music and S.P. Charan's famous father SPB will be seen on screen after a long time. The movie also stars Prasanna, Ramya and Yasmin Khan. Yasmin makes her debut with this film. After working with the likes of Mysskin and Venkat Prabhu, Shakti K. Rajan makes his directorial debut. Talking about the film, the director said, "I will not say that I am not looking for success and appreciation; I definitely am. But I also feel that Naanayam will not fail me. The story has all the elements of a commercial entertainer and will definitely appeal to the audience. Actually when I wrote the script of the film, I knew that I can not go wrong with this film."
Produced by Capital Film Works, the movie is expected to hit the screens in December.

The similarities between Theeratha Vilayattu Pillai (TVP) and Bachna Ae Haseeno (BAH) are uncanny. Both movies are about a playboy, have three gorgeous heroines and in both movies, the protagonist is a carefree dude who understands the true meaning of love after undergoing several ups and downs.
BAH starred Ranbir Kapoor as the lover boy and TVP has Vishal. The Puratchi Thalapathy is desperate for a hit after the lukewarm response of his last two releases Satyam and Thoranai. Both movies had gorgeous heroines (Nayantara and Shriya Saran respectively) which did not make much difference at the box office. TVP boasts of Neetu Chandra (Yavarum Nalam fame) and two former beauty queens: Sarah Jane Dias and Tanushree Dutta, both making their Kollywood debuts with this movie.
Will TVP recreate the success of BAH? We will have to wait for the movie to release. The music has been getting a positive response. Composed by Yuvanshankar Raja, the songs were released under the Sony Music label.

Review Spoilers Story revealed in brief
We seldom appreciate the experiments that happen in Tamil moviemaking, but are always open to anything that Hollywood gives us! We underestimate what our own filmmakers are capable of, keep criticizing and thereby kill the intention of directors to try something different. Also, rarely does the film's certification matter to any moviegoer before he steps into the cinema hall. If a movie is certified for mature audiences, it is meant to be so. Cinema is inspired by true happenings in life today. It's either told in a sugar-coated fashion or straight in the face. Beginning the review on this note, Goa is different, be it in the story, screenplay or characterization and is for mature audiences. This Venkat Prabhu holiday is going to be loved by his fans and at the same time, will get mixed reviews from armchair-critics!Here comes the perfectly-planned holiday for all those who seek pure entertainment on the silver screen! Venkat Prabhu's Goa is truly a fun-filled holiday, a romantic comedy. Making his third directorial venture, Venkat must have surely enjoyed it like we do while watching it. Goa speaks on relationships and the love life of the protagonists in a lovable and a thoroughly engaging way!Venkat has again created a successful commercial entertainer, but differs from the other directors by experimenting with a simple script, then making it interesting and entertaining by playing around with the screenplay and execution. Be it Chennai 600028, Saroja or Goa, Venkat Prabhu will continue to be known as a cult film director. So, what is this roller-coaster holiday ride all about? Keep reading!Who's In ItYes! It is true - Silambarasan and Nayantara are in Goa! Though they are cameo roles, the gossip was right! Others in cameos are S.P. Charan, Prasanna, Sakthi Saravanan, Vasuki Bhaskar and Venkat Prabhu himself. Goa boasts of a huge star cast including Jai, Vaibhav, Premji Amaren, Aravind Aakash, Sampath, Sneha, Piaa, Melanie Marie and Jerome.Yuvanshankar Raja composes the music. Cinematography is by Sakthi Saravanan. Written and directed by Venkat Prabhu, Goa is produced by Soundarya Rajinikanth for Ocher Picture Productions.
What's It About?
Goa is not about the protagonist's struggle for justice to the society, especially the poor and the needy. It is not about the honest officer in disguise as a super hero who fights the evil in his own ways! It is not even about an elder brother's love for his family! You may ask how a Tamil movie can be made without the fight between good and evil as the story. Venkat Prabhu's Goa is your answer! If you have loved movies like Road Trip, American Pie which revolve around stories that are made to entertain only - it would be Goa in Tamil cinema, one among the few. To mention another cult film, it must be K. Bhagyaraj's Indru Poi Naalai Vaa (but of course, Goa is not an equivalent to the classic).
Vinayagam (Jai), Ramarajan (Vaibhav) and Saamikannu (Premji Amaren), childhood friends living in a village, have been trying to make a trip to the city. This seems to be their ambition which is not approved by the village panchayat headed by Ramarajan's father (Vijaykumar). The three, after a few failed escape attempts, decide to run away to Madurai where they assume their friend would help them out. Saamikannu (treated by the villagers as the son of the God!) steals money along with a few jewels from the temple he works in while leaving to Madurai. They meet their friend, who is to be married to a foreigner (named Angelina Jolie!). She fell in love with him while he was a travel guide in Goa. He boasts that he is leaving abroad after marriage and will be earning in dollars. He talks about the rich life he shall lead abroad. This tempts the three friends and their ambitions now change. They decide to leave to Goa. Their aim? To find gorgeous white women whom they plan to impress and make them fall in love with resulting in marriage. This marriage will enable them to leave abroad and become rich. So, the three now leave to Goa. The holiday starts!
After reaching Goa, they meet Danny (Aravind Aakash), who along with Jack (Sampath), his partner in business and life, provides the guys with accommodation, food and also image makeovers. Vinayagam as Vinay, Ramarajan as Ram and Saamikannu as Sam begin their quest to find the perfect woman! At the end of the story, the three of them do find their perfect matches but, are they the ones they came to Goa in search of? No! Destiny has its own plans! Check out the movie for the twists and turns which will make you bring the theatre down with your laughter!
The Performances
Anyone who watches Goa will agree that Venkat Prabhu can never get a better cast than his present Goa cast! It looks like not just Venkat, the entire cast and crew enjoyed working in this movie. This is evident from the performances by the cast. They are all at ease. After all, it's a holiday!
Jai as Vinayagam rocks with his 'Butler English'! It is a delight to watch him dance to the music of MJ and call America his native country! He is at best when he convinces Premji and Vaibhav to plan a trip to Goa. He emotes well when he has to make a choice between his ambition and love. Piaa as Jai's love interest is cute!
Vaibhav as Ramarajan, the Casanova of the village, is hilarious, especially when he finds himself in a tight corner by marrying the possessive Sneha! His man-to-man talk with Prasanna on Sneha is just pure fun!
Sneha as Suhasini, an entrepreneur who owns a ship and a casino is excellent! She has to be appreciated for having accepted to play this crazy woman who nearly terrorizes Prasanna and Vaibhav with her possessiveness! She looks pretty and sexy in modern outfits. The prelude to her action avatar as Bhavani can also be seen in Goa!
Aravind Aakash as Danny with his six-pack abs makes an impression playing the gay lover, a character that has always been mocked or used for comic relief on the silver screen. Sampath as Jack is impressive. Though his sequences with Aravind Aakash might not go well with conservative audiences, both actors have given what was necessary as far as performance is concerned.
The show stealers are Premji Amaren and Melanie Marie as Saamikannu and Jessica Alba! Premji has become a commercial hero with Goa! He falls in love, fights the baddies and also wins his bride at the end! His Naan Kadavul, Vettaikaran and Subramaniapuram sequences are a laugh riot! Melanie as Jessica Alba makes a wonderful pair for Premji!
Jerome is good as Aravind's friend.
Venkat has created fun by making an actor play a variety of characters in the same movie. Ravikanth and Pitchumani excel in more than 9 roles! The most-remembered will be the lady get-up which is shown while the credits roll! Hollywood's Bedazzled (Brendan Fraser and Elizabeth Hurley) comes to mind when this scene is seen. Overall, as mentioned earlier, Goa is supported by excellent performances from the cast.
For Techie Lovers
Venkat Prabhu's movies have always been technically above average and Goa has gone one step further with excellent visuals by Sakthi Saravanan and music by Yuvanshankar Raja. 'Idhu Varai', 'Vaaliba Vaa Vaa' and 'Idai Vazhi' are the pick of the lot. His Goa theme suits the holiday mood of the movie. The background score is perfect for a romantic comedy! Vasuki Bhaskar's costumes are fashionable. Goa is a visual treat. All the spoofs are thoroughly enjoyable; a few are the flashback of Premji's birth, Melanie and her friends speaking Tamil, like in those dubbed movies with 'Ovvuru Pookalumaey' as the background music!
Final Verdict
Venkat Prabhu's Goa produced by Soundarya Rajinikanth is a hilarious entertainer! Not every movie has to carry serious propaganda or a message for society! True love triumphs - that's the message of Goa. You are on a holiday, so forget seeking answers for questions prompted by the grey cells! Skip logic, enjoy this Venkat Prabhu holiday!
Cheers!: Venkat Prabhu, Soundarya Rajinikanth & the entire cast and crew!

Galatta Movie Rating 3.5/5
Here comes a movie which reflects the thoughts of an average cinegoer! Audiences have been used to the run-of-the-mill commercial masalas on screen. Most movies featuring actors uttering punch dialogues, one man fighting against nearly ten baddies, making them fly in the air matrix-style have been ridiculed by the fans themselves among friends. What if all these fans together made a spoof on the existing rules and regulations of commercial cinema? Tamil Padam is the answer!
Who's In It?
Shiva (Chennai 600028, Saroja) plays the protagonist of Tamil Padam. He is not accompanied by any other young actors, but has Vennira Aadai Moorthy, Manobala and M.S. Bhaskar as his friends! Disha Pandey makes her debut as Shiva's love interest. Shamughasundaram, Periyardhasan, Azhagu, Mahanathi Sankar, Sampath, Paravai Muniyamma, Ammu, V.S. Ragavan and Rekha Suresh are part of the cast.
Tamil Padam is directed by C.S. Amuthan and produced by Dhayanidhi Azhagiri for Cloud Nine Movies.
What's It About?
In a village called Cinemapatti, a father (Periyardhasan as Mokkai) awaits the birth of his child. A boy is born. This is considered unfortunate by him, as the panchayat rules clearly order the male child to be sentenced to death. With much grief, he asks his mother (Paravai Muniyamma as Mooli) to kill the child. While trying to do so using the 'Karuthamma' fame 'Kalli-paal (cactus milk)' technique, the just-born-boy speaks to his grandmother! He convinces her that becoming a commercial hero in movies is his destiny. He wants her to drop him in a goods train which will take him to Chennai (Thalapthy-ish!). But the grandmother swears to make him a big star and takes him along with her to Chennai. Central railway station is shown, indicating that the boy has arrived in Chennai!
A gang of baddies cause havoc and threaten the merchants in a bus stand demanding money. The young boy sees the atrocities and he tells his grandmother that he needs to save the innocent and poor by fighting for them. He curiously asks her when this will be possible. Mooli shows him a bicycle and asks him to start riding it. The wheel spins and the young boy grows older into our hero Shiva (Shiva)!
Shiva fights the baddies, followed by an introduction song titled 'Pachai Manja Pink Tamilan naan'! He is the saviour of the poor and needy! People fondly call him as Pudhiya Thalapathy, Agila Ulagha Super Star and Vice-Captain!! As per the tradition followed in Tamil cinema, he sits on the walls chit-chatting about girls and hangs around with his 'Boys' friends - Bharath (Vennira Aadai Moorthy), Nakul (M.S. Bhaskar) and Siddharth (Manobala).
Now comes the love story. Shiva meets Priya (Disha Pandey) in a book store while picking up the book 'Love and Love Only' (Kadhalukku Mariyathai-ish) and falls in love with her at first sight. His love becomes stronger when he sees her fighting for justice, defending an ill-treated husband by beating up his drunkard wife (Mozhi!). He tries to convince her of his love for her. He visits her college and proposes to her in a library (Mounam Ragam-ish). He also tries to impress her by learning Bharatnatyam (Kadhalan!). She reciprocates his love.
During a subway rendezvous, Shiva and Priya are found by her father's men (like in Run). Priya fears that they might harm Shiva. But, by placing a mole (!) on his face he is no longer recognized (!!) by the men and smartly escapes from them. Meanwhile, Priya's father Kodeeswaran (Azhaghu) comes to know of his daughter's love affair and meets Shiva.
Kodeeswaran insults him citing the reason that he is poor. Shiva challenges that he will become richer than him by working hard. After Shiva leaves, Kodeeswaran asks his servant for coffee. Shiva's hard work to earn money is shown in a song (as in Rajni's Annamalai and many other Vikraman movies). He does everything possible under the sun! Before the coffee is given to Kodeeswaran, Shiva comes back as a crorepati!! The father accepts him as the bridegroom. Shiva and Priya sing a duet in hill stations. End of love story.
Next is the action avatar! Shiva, apart from being the Pudhiya Thalapathy and lover boy, is also an undercover cop (Pokkiri-ish). He is on a secret mission to arrest a mafia gang leader called 'D for Death'. He eliminates a few criminals (Thirupachi-ish, Ghajini-ish, Anniyan-ish and Aboorva Sagotharargal-ish style!) but during a trip to Pondicherry with Priya in a jeep, he is attacked by D's men while he is drunk, making him unable to fight back. They also kidnap Priya (like in Kaakha Kaakha!). A badly wounded Shiva wakes up in a hospital. The doctor confirms that it might take months or even years for him to even walk. But as soon as Shiva hears a telepathic scream from Priya for help, he immediately gets up from bed and goes on a mission to save his girl and exterminate the villans. The doctor exclaims that it is a medical miracle!!
The rest of the story is about whether Shiva saved Priya from the clutches of D. The twist in the tale comes in the form of his grandmother as the notorious criminal D (reasons clearly explained in the movie!). This interesting tale also includes Shiva making a visit back to Cinemapatti to find his parents! Do we need to say more on this laugh riot?! No more spoilers; check the movie out in theatres!
The Performances
Tamil Padam is about Shiva as a commercial hero! He has simple excelled in his performance. It remains doubtful if anyone else could have played his role with such finesse. He steals the show. All others in the cast are good. Kasthuri in an item number sizzles.
For the Techie Lovers
Though a spoof, Tamil Padam has been given the technical attention like for any other commercial movie. Nirav Shah's cinematography is a major plus. Kannan's songs and background score are enjoyable. C.S. Amuthan's script is immensely supported by the dialogues.
Final Verdict
Making a spoof this large on Tamil cinema has never happened before. The huge response the movie has received at the box office and among critics proves that the movie is a rocking entertainer. The industry, which is generally very touchy about being made fun or criticised, has taken Tamil Padam in a sportive fashion which deserves appreciation. C.S. Amuthan's effort to make a movie in this unexplored genre is commendable. All credit goes to Dhayanidhi Azhagiri for making this production possible! Tamil Padam is a cult. Watch it with your friends and family, again and again!
Cheers!: Dhayanidhi Azhagiri, C.S. Amuthan and Shiva!
